Jonathan Rebouillat discovered the art of origami by chance during a journey of self-discovery when he was 25. That year, he left to live in the Amazon, with no plans to return and no access to oil. As a crew member on a sailboat, he stopped in Martinique, and it was on this island that he fell in love with the art of folding after meeting an origami enthusiast.
He lived for a year with a Kichwa tribe in Ecuador before deciding to return home. There he met Giang Dinh, a Vietnamese origami artist whose work deeply moved him. It was then that he decided to try his hand at creating his own models. One evening, while randomly manipulating a piece of paper, he jumped: a moment before, he had been looking at his paper, and now it was the paper that was looking at him. A gorilla: his first creation.
Over the years, he has perfected a rare and original technique using a square of watercolor paper that he moistens to reproduce the animal figures he encounters in nature: bears, wolves, cranes, swallows, eagles, whales... a whole bestiary of paper comes to life in his hands. His approach is minimalist: a few folds to retain only the essentials and attempt to suggest a presence, an attitude, a movement. His work is intended as a humble tribute to the beauty of the world, full of poetry and delicacy.

A naturalist illustrator with nearly 40 years of experience, Jean Chevallier discovered his calling early on when he came across the illustrations of Swiss artist Robert Hainard. His signature style is highly regarded and can be found in numerous illustrated books and magazines about nature.
